Escape Room Field Trips
Curriculum-Connected Field Trips for Ontario High School Students
Freeing Canada Station offers a structured field trip program that connects the escape room experience directly to Ontario curriculum expectations. Each visit is designed for one course at a time and includes two components: the escape room experience itself and a one-hour post-game educational session aligned to your specific subject area. The program covers more than 80 Ontario high school courses across Business, Arts, Technology, English, French, and Social Sciences. This is not a team-building outing. It is a documented instructional activity with explicit curriculum links — designed to meet the standard your administration expects when approving a field trip.

What Is Included in Every Visit?
Part 1 — The Escape Room Experience
Students work in small groups to solve a series of interconnected puzzles within a themed room. Each room experience runs approximately 60 minutes. Groups are supervised by Freeing Canada Station staff throughout the experience, and students can exit at any point if needed.
Part 2 — The Post-Game Educational Session (1 Hour)
After the escape room, students take part in a structured one-hour session facilitated by Freeing Canada Station staff. The session connects the experience directly to the expectations of your specific course. It may include guided discussion, industry analysis, applied activities, or creative design work — depending on the subject area.
What Is an Escape Room?
An escape room is a structured, team-based problem-solving experience. Participants work together in a themed environment to find clues, solve puzzles, and complete a series of challenges — all within a set time limit. At Freeing Canada Station, rooms are designed to be engaging and accessible to a wide range of students, with no prior experience required.
A few things worth knowing before your visit:
-
Students work in small groups, typically up to 8 per room
-
Every session is supervised by a trained staff member
-
Students can exit the room at any time if they need a break
-
No physical challenge or specialized knowledge is required to participate
-
Rooms are designed to be age-appropriate for high school students

Curriculum Fit
The program is built around Ontario secondary school curriculum expectations. Every post-game session connects the escape room experience to documented expectations from the Ontario curriculum — giving you the specific expectation codes you need to justify this trip as an instructional activity.
In addition, a cross-curricular Puzzle Design and Game Creation activity can be adapted for virtually any subject area — including Geography, History, Law, Science, Math, Civics, and Cooperative Education.
