Safety, Supervision, and Student Support

This page outlines supervision practices, exit procedures, student support protocols, and what we ask of accompanying teachers. If you have specific concerns about a student in your group, contact us before your visit and we will work with you to plan accordingly.

Staff Supervision

Freeing Canada Station staff are present and active throughout every phase of the visit — from check-in through the end of the post-game session. This includes:

  • A staff member assigned to monitor each escape room during the experience

  • A facilitator present for the full duration of the post-game educational session

  • Staff available to assist during transitions between activities

Students are not left unsupervised at any point during the Freeing Canada Station portion of the visit. Supervising teachers remain responsible for students during transition periods and any time students are outside of the scheduled program activities (e.g., lunch, washroom breaks).

Exit Procedures and Student Choice

Participation in the escape room experience is voluntary. Any student may leave the room at any time, for any reason, without penalty or explanation.

  • All rooms have clearly marked, accessible exits

  • Exit doors are not locked — students are never physically confined

  • A staff member can be called into the room immediately if a student needs to leave or needs assistance

  • Students who exit early can wait in the lounge area with staff present

If you have a student who may be anxious about enclosed spaces or the nature of the activity, let us know in advance. We can walk through the room with the student before the group experience begins or arrange for them to participate in a modified capacity.

Student Support During the Experience

Our staff are trained to monitor the group experience and provide guidance when needed. This includes:

  • Offering hints to groups who are stuck, on request

  • Adjusting pacing if a group is significantly ahead or behind schedule

  • Checking in with groups throughout the session

  • Responding promptly if a student signals that they need to leave or need assistance

The escape room experience is designed to be challenging but accessible. It does not require physical strength, speed, or specialized knowledge. Students who engage thoughtfully with their group are well-positioned to participate fully, regardless of prior experience.

Accessibility Considerations

Please contact us before your visit if any students in your group have mobility considerations, sensory sensitivities, or other accessibility needs. We will discuss which rooms are most suitable and what accommodations can be made.

  • Room layouts and physical access vary — we can advise on the most accessible options for your group

  • Lighting and sound levels are part of the room design but can be discussed in advance if a student has sensory needs

  • Students who cannot fully participate in the room experience may be able to observe or participate in a modified format — contact us to discuss options

What We Expect from Accompanying Teachers

To ensure the visit runs smoothly and safely for all students, we ask accompanying teachers to:

  • Remain on-site for the full duration of the visit

  • Supervise students during transitions, waiting periods, and lunch breaks

  • Ensure students are aware of exit procedures and that participation is their choice

  • Inform Freeing Canada Station staff of any medical conditions or emergency protocols relevant to students in the group

  • Follow school board field trip policies regarding adult-to-student ratios

  • Be reachable by phone throughout the visit

We work with schools regularly and are experienced in supporting teachers through the logistics of a field trip visit. If you are unsure about any aspect of the visit, contact us before booking and we will walk through it with you.

Emergency Procedures

Freeing Canada Station has documented emergency procedures in place. In the event of an emergency during your visit:

  • Staff will direct students to the nearest exit

  • Emergency contacts provided at the time of booking will be notified immediately

  • Teachers are expected to manage student headcounts and follow their school board's emergency protocols

If you need our emergency procedures documentation for your field trip approval submission, contact us and we will provide it.

Pricing

There is no additional cost for the post-game educational session. The educational component is included as part of the standard Freeing Canada Station field trip group rate.

Pricing is consistent with our existing group booking rates. For current pricing information, contact us directly when submitting your booking inquiry.
