Frequently Asked Questions
If your question is not answered here, contact us directly and we will respond within one business day.
My course is not on the course list. Can I still book a field trip?
Yes. The Puzzle Design and Game Creation activity can be adapted for any subject area. If your course is not among those listed — for example, if you teach Geography, History, Science, Law, Mathematics, Philosophy, or Cooperative Education — contact us and we will design a session format that works for your course.
The course list reflects the subjects for which we have developed specific post-game sessions. It is not a restriction on who can attend.
How difficult are the escape rooms? Are they appropriate for all students?
Our rooms are designed to be accessible to a range of learners. They require observation, logical thinking, and collaboration — not physical ability, speed, or prior experience. Students do not need to have done an escape room before.
Rooms vary in theme and complexity. When you book, let us know your group's experience level and we will recommend the most suitable option. If you have students with specific learning needs, contact us in advance and we will discuss how to support them.
What happens if a student needs to leave the room during the experience?
Students may exit the room at any time. All exits are clearly marked and accessible. A staff member can be called into the room immediately if a student needs to leave.
Students who exit early can wait in a designated common area with Freeing Canada Station staff present. They are not required to return to the room and will not miss the post-game session.
If you have a student who may be anxious about the nature of the experience, let us know before your visit. We can arrange a brief walkthrough of the room beforehand or discuss alternative participation options.
Do students need prior escape room experience?
No prior experience is required. Staff provide a full briefing before each group begins, covering the rules, how to ask for hints, and how to exit if needed. First-time participants perform just as well as experienced ones — and often benefit more from the experience because everything is new.
How are groups structured inside the rooms?
Each room holds 4 to 12 students. Teachers are asked to assign students to groups in advance using a group assignment sheet provided after booking. This allows you to organize groups based on your knowledge of the class — separating students who may not work well together, balancing dynamics, or accounting for any specific needs.
If you would like guidance on how to structure groups effectively, we are happy to advise.
How do I get administrator approval for this field trip?
The Courses and Curriculum page on this site lists the specific Ontario curriculum expectation codes addressed by each session. This is the documentation most administrators and department heads require to approve an instructional field trip.
We also offer a downloadable one-page program summary that you can attach to your field trip approval form. You can download it here: [Download Program Summary PDF].
If your administration requires additional documentation — such as emergency procedures, staff qualifications, or a written program description — contact us and we will provide what you need.
Can I visit Freeing Canada Station before booking a class trip?
Yes. We encourage teachers to experience the escape room firsthand before bringing a class. Contact us to arrange a teacher preview visit — we will walk you through the experience and answer any questions about the educational program.
Can multiple classes visit on the same day?
Yes, with advance planning. We can accommodate multiple classes or sections through scheduled rotations. Contact us early — larger visits require coordination around room availability, staff scheduling, and session timing.
Is the post-game session always led by the same person?
The educational session is facilitated by Freeing Canada Station staff with curriculum knowledge. The French session is facilitated by a former French teacher. If you have specific questions about who will be leading the session for your course, ask when you book.
What is the cancellation or rescheduling policy?
Cancellation and rescheduling terms are confirmed at the time of booking. Contact us as early as possible if your plans change — school schedules are unpredictable and we will work with you to find a solution.
